My dear friends from long ago. I was back in South Bend at Christmas and learned of our dear Cys passing. My love goes out to each one of you as you journey in this deep grieving. I will never forget our trip in India, it changed me forever. I also cherish our Malabar days that followed... I think of you all from time to time and wonder what your worlds contain. My dear Elsie...I will never forget. And to you 3 "kids" forever your "wooly Mammoth" ...I was at Sacred Hearts Christmas Eve Mass this year thinking of you all. I so wanted to atend the service for Cy but had to leave for home in North Carolina before the snow flew. Peace and love to you all. Love Cynthia

Cy was one of my best friends. I had known him for over sixty years. A good scholar he was. Above all a gentle spirit, kind and generous man. He had the patience of Job, the wisdom of Nestor, and the dedication of Laertes. We will all miss him.

Pullapilly Family:

Please know that our heart-felt thoughts and prayers are with all of you after the passing of Cy. The world is a better place for having had him walking the earth and spreading his love all these years and we are all better people, because we had the good fortune of knowing him. He was such a giving, interesting, and light-hearted man that was a true role model to everyone with whom he made contact. We feel that we were blessed to have known him and to have had him as a neighbor for so many years. We are sorry that we will not be there for the service, but we will be with you in spirit. He is probably having some intellectual conversation or telling one of his many stories about all of his adventures over the years with others in heaven - enlightening everyone within earshot and also making them laugh. May your memories provide you with solace in this very difficult time.

I still remember my grandmother, Grace McGuire, introducing me to both Dr. and Mr.s. Pullapilly when I was a child. It was an honor to later have Dr. Pullapilly as a professor at Saint Mary's. He was wonderful in every way. The entire Urda family mourns him, and we send condolences and prayers to all of you during this time and always.

I was saddened to hear of the passing if Dr P. I loved his course at Saint Mary’s and know he shared his love of history with all of us in the department. He and his family will be in my thoughts and prayers during this holiday season. I had his course at a time in my life where I was going through a lot of change and he was such a joy and amazing person. I knew my decisions were good and he was a great example of what I could become with the change I was undertaking. I will miss him very much.

Dr. Pullapilly is a pioneer in international education. The Semester Around the World Program that he created opened a door to the world for our students. I came to work at Saint Mary’s at the end of his teaching career, but his legacy lives on. - Alice Yang

Cy was chair of the department when I was hired at Saint Mary's. I am so glad you remembered the humor he brought to the department. I will never forget how Cy would pop into my office, giggling the whole time, with an idea for a practical joke on one of his colleagues. He was the mastermind. I simply helped him carry out his plans.

He was a wonderful man! The very definition of a Christian gentleman. So generous. So kind. And always with a twinkle in his eye!

Cy was a kind and gentle spirit who always had a friendly word. At Saint Mary's., I remember him as an accomplished scholar and energetic presence. His office was two doors down from mine, and we had many little visits over the years. I shall miss seeing him in the halls of Madeleva and the rest of his family at the Malabar. He was a remarkable man who will be mourned by many. Please accept my condolences.

I also shared in the joy of his ‘Semester Around the World’. He was especially kind to me during the interview as a student at Saint Mary’s, and in his willingness to let me join the trip (late in the application process, without my having ever previously so much as stepped foot on an airplane), he found a way to show me the world. With deepest sympathy for your loss as a family, and with cherished memories of Dr. P as a teacher and friend,

Dr. P showed me the world. I remember his humor, his story telling (remember the one about too many bananas on his communion!), his patience, his wisdom, and his endurance. He instilled curiosity and humility in me and forever changed my life. He will be missed by many. Much love to his family.

Dr. P was a loving and benevolent influence for his students. As one of his SAW travelors, my life has been blessed by my trip, and more importantly by Dr. P’s positive influence and guidance in my life. I will miss his thoughtfulness, sense of humor and faith, most of all.
All my love to Mrs. P, Gita and the rest of the family.
