Charles O. Heritz

Charles Oscar Heritz, Sr., 85, of South Bend, passed away Tuesday July 12, 2011, in Hospice House.

He was born on June 26, 1926, in South Bend, to the late Rose (Roth) Eisbrenner and Louie Heritz.

On December 31, 1948 he married Ella Jean Baer, who he will join in heaven along with their daughter, Cynthia Ann Heritz. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Georgie McFarland.

Charles is survived by his daughters, Cheryl (Robert) Pejza of South Bend and Deborah (Robert) Hollingsworth of Osceola; his son, Charles O. (Michelle) Hertiz, Jr.; eight grandchildren, Nicholas and Timothy (Juliann) Pejza, Heather and Alyson Alerding, Jennifer (Matt) Datema, and Jamie, Amanda and Brandon Heritz; nine great-grandchildren, Hannah Kaniewski, Ethan Lorhoff, Brooklyn and Keith Alerding, Alexavier and Aliana Datema, Nicholas Benson and Christian and Julian Smith.

Mr. Heritz retired from N & H Vending, Co, in 1989. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Pulaski Post #357 and a lifetime member of the VFW Post #8748, since 1949.

He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His friends will remember him by his sense of humor and jokes. He loved playing euchre, he had his schedule and he was a lifetime Cubs fan.

Visitation will be from 10 to 12 pm Friday July 15, 2011, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend. Funeral services for Charles will follow at noon in the funeral home. Entombment will take place at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend.
