Verna was the oldest daughter of Charles and Ida Mullins.  She graduated from Grass Creek High School.  In 1945 she married Robert F. Smith. They had 5 children, Patricia, Robert, Karen, Janis, and David.  On February 6, 1960 she married Edward S. Huegel. They had 50 years together.  They enjoyed bowling, golf, traveling and spending time with the family. Verna was a waitress for 50 years.  Started at Bonnie Doon in Mishawaka, Garrett’s Whitespot, Mike’s, Duffy Tavern, the B & B in Osceola, and last Coney Express.  She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Smith, Edward Huegel, her sisters Zora Conner, Ester Bixler, Mary Collins, Bessie Bain, and Luella Mullins, her brother, Leroy Mullins, her daughter, Karen Mabey, and son Robert.  She is survived by her daughter Pat Short, and son David Smith of Mishawaka.  Several nieces and nephews and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. She loved playing practical jokes on her family to the very end.
