Thomas Lyle Wetter, Sr., 83, of Alabama, passed away on Saturday April 18, 2020, in Jasper, Alabama. Thomas was born on July 6, 1936 in Osceola, Indiana to Robert “Jack” Wetter and Sadie (Cocanower) Wetter. He retired with the rank of Master Sargent from the United States Air Force (1955 – 1996) and had also served in DC Air National Guard and Air Force Reserves, stationed at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. Thomas is survived by his daughter, Jo Ann (Henry) Heritz of South Bend, Indiana; his son Thomas Lyle Wetter, Jr. (Kristi) of Elkhart, Indiana; two brothers, John (Mary Lou) Wetter of Des Peres, Missouri and Dennis (Judy) Wetter of Bradenton, Florida; his sister-in-law, Jean Wetter of Normal, Illinois; and his brother-in-law, Whitey Thornburg of LaPorte Indiana. Thomas was preceded in death by his grandson, Michael J. Grembowicz; his parents, Robert and Sadie Wetter; his sister, Kathryn Thornburg; and his brother, Charles Wetter. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2020 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana. The funeral service will be livestreamed on the Kaniewski Funeral Home Livestream Facebook page. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, where members of the United States Air Force will conduct Military Services. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. The family requests that all visitors please wear face coverings and practice social distancing. Thomas was member of the American Legion, VFW, AMVETS, the Elks and the Moose Lodge. After retirement he spent his time tinkering with model trains, woodworking and time in his garage.
