Thomas James Mylod Jr., March 28, 1937 – June 25, 2024 NOTRE DAME
Thomas James Mylod Jr. passed away on June 25, 2024 in South Bend, Indiana. Tom was born in Poughkeepsie, New York to the late Thomas Mylod and Anna (McKay) Mylod. He graduated from Poughkeepsie High School, Fordham University, and New York University. He married Carol Ann Kennedy in 1963 and they celebrated 50 years of marriage before her passing in 2014. Tom was Dean of Men at Fordham University and then transitioned to St. John’s University as Dean of Students where he spent the remainder of his career in administrative and operational roles. In 2008 he moved to the South Bend area to be near his grandchildren. Outside of his family, he gave his time to service organizations, participating in the Knights of Columbus and Kiwanis Club and serving over 45 years of service in the Naval Reserves in a Cryptology Unit. Tom was most passionate about his 42 years as a volunteer in the Bellerose Village Fire Department where he attained the rank of Chief. He also served as the president of the Nassau County 1st Battalion Chief’s Mutual Aid Commission and as Deputy Fire Coordinator for Communications and participated in the coordination of mutual aid from Nassau County to support the first responders during 911. He is survived by his daughter, Deirdre, son-in-law, Paul Worland, and two grandchildren, Thomas and Charlotte, who were all by his side at his passing. He is preceded in death by his son, Thomas James Mylod III. A viewing will take place on Tuesday, July 2, at the Saint Joseph Chapel , 54515 SR 933 Hwy North, Notre Dame, IN from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, with a Catholic Mass following at 11:00 am.
