Therese M. Banicki, 95, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 9:28 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2026 in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, IN.
She was born on March 9, 1931 to the late John and Anna (Pawlak) Grabarz in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong area resident. Along with her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene F. Banicki; a son, Dennis Banicki on February 7, 2020; three sisters, Et Cencelewski, Joan Kulczak, Eveline Skrzypiec; and three brothers, Stanley, John, and Joseph Grabarz.
Therese graduated in 1949 from Central High School. She retired in 1999 from the University of Notre Dame, where she worked as a Bookkeeper in the Athletic Department Business Office for 20 years.
On June 23, 1951, she married Eugene F. Banicki at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. He passed away on September 10, 2011.
Therese is survived by two daughters, Denise (John) Edwards of Mishawaka, IN; Gina (Michael) Beyer of Toano, VA; one son, Gino Banicki of Salt Lake City, UT; four grandchildren, Jonathan (Stacy) Beyer, Abby Beyer, Alex Banicki, Donna (Bryon) Woodward; four great grandchildren, Caysie (Brad) Shaw, Bryan Woodward, Britton Woodward, Caroline Beyer; one great-great grandson, Carter Shaw; and a large extended family.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in South Bend, IN, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m., with Rev. Augustine Onuoha officiating. Private burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, IN.
Therese was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish, where she played the organ for 40 years and was a member of the Rosary Society and Retirees Club. She was also a member of St. Casimir Senior Citizens Club, Joyce Center Retirees, St. Stanislaus Harvest House, 1949 Central High School Graduating Class Committee Member, and the former Club 53. Since 1949 she has enjoyed the friendships of those in her card club.
