Teresa E. Biggs

Teresa E. Biggs, 93, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 11:06 a.m. Thursday, November 7, 2024, in Holy Cross Village, Notre Dame, Indiana.  Teresa was born on March 29, 1931 in Petoskey, Michigan to John A. and Anna M. (Haas) Schwartzfisher.  She had been employed as a Registered Nurse for 45 years at St. Joseph Medical Center.  On September 20, 1952, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend, Indiana she married Patrick J. Biggs, Sr. who preceded her in death on August 2, 2014.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; her son, Joe Biggs; seven sisters, Helen, Mary, Catherine, Agnes, Genie, Rose and Rita; and four brothers, Richard, Bernard, John and Alfred.  Teresa is survived by two daughters, Karen (Terry) Kalemba of Rockford, Michigan and Jean (Tom) Gooley of Westerville, Ohio; six sons, Michael (Patti) Biggs of South Bend, Indiana, Patrick (Andrea) Biggs, Jr. of Mishawaka, Indiana, Kevin Biggs of Kankakee, Illinois, Richard (Margo) Biggs of South Bend, Indiana, Robert (Holly) Biggs of South Bend, Indiana and Thomas (Tracy) Biggs of Granger, Indiana; eighteen grandchildren, Jean, Courtney, Lynsey, Colin, Brianne, Adam, Justin, Karen, Eric, Jason, Kim, Andrew, Matthew, Sarah, Ryan, Christian, Austin and Zachary; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; one sister, Edith (Gordy) Kruskie of Cross Village, Michigan; and two brothers, Joseph (Louise) Schwartzfisher and Leo Schwartzfisher both of Petoskey, Michigan.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2024 in Corpus Christi Church.  Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.  A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, where a rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m.  A visitation will also be held from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday in Corpus Christi Church.   Teresa was currently a member of Corpus Christi Church.  She was a former member of St. Joseph Parish and St. Matthew Parish and Altar and Rosary Society.  Teresa graduated as a National Honors Scholar from St. Francis High School in Petoskey, Michigan.  She then attended and graduated from Holy Cross School of Nursing where she scored the highest grade on her State Board Exam.  Teresa was a member of  a Widows Group that met monthly for lunch.  She enjoyed cooking and canning. Teresa ultimately enjoyed spending time with her family.  Memorial Contributions should be directed to Corpus Christi Church.
