Susanne R. Murchison Pare, 83, of South Bend, passed away on Thursday April 2, 2026, in her daughter’s home surrounded by her daughters and two of her granddaughters. Sue was born on August 16, 1942, in South Bend, to the late Benjamin P. and Ruth E. (Bontrager) Turnock. She was predeceased in death by her parents, her sister Barbara Slabaugh, and her brother Daniel Turnock. Sue’s youngest brother, Donald (Margo) Turnock of Eureka Springs, AK survives. Mrs. Pare attended Holy Cross Elementary School, St. Joseph High School and Holy Cross School of Nursing, where she received her associate’s degree. Sue started her nursing career at St. Joseph Hospital on the Pediatric Unit and went on to join Dr. Harriet Hanley in a private practice. Through the years that followed she was a nurse for Doctors Sweeney, Dwyer, Kornegay-Rougeau, Hudson, and Simpson-O'Reggio. Sue retired from nursing in 2010. She married Jerry Murchison on May 27, 1967. They had two daughters, Amy (Dan) Wray of South Bend and Stacey (Scott Gimson) of Elkhart, IN. Jerry preceded her in death in 1984. On August 10, 1991, Sue married Howard E. Pare. He preceded her in death in 2001. Sue was graced with a wonderful family, which included her daughters, nine grandchildren; Kymberlee (Daniel) Diaz, Kevin and Benjamin West, Kyle Pennell, Bob (Melissa) Swank, Sue Ellen (Jim) Bowers, Rosemary (John) Borkowski, Bill Swank and Rachael Wray, great-grandchildren, Aiden Sellers, Nathan, Isaac and Emmett Diaz, Nicholas and Glenn Swank and Joe and Richard Borkowski and two great great grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Sue was known to many as either mom or grandma. After retirement Sue’s joys were quilting, spending time with family and friends and being able to care for her great grandsons Aiden, Isaac and Emmett. Sue spent many hours behind the sewing machine quilting, sometimes with the help of the great grandsons. Sue's family was very blended, we like to think that her family was her best quilt she ever made, many different pieces that made her life beautiful. Visitation for Sue will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday April 10, 2026 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday April 11, 2026, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1050 Wilbur St., South Bend, where friends may visit for one hour prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers the family asked that donations be sent to Camp Millhouse in her honor. To send online condolences, please visit http://www.kaniewski.com.
