With great sadness, the family of Stephen M. Toussaint announces his passing on September 10, 2026, at the age of 84. A resident of South Bend, Indiana, Stephen was born on January 18, 1942, in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, to Stephen and Fern (Miner) Toussaint.
Stephen graduated from the University of Notre Dame and proudly served his country for two years in the United States Army.
He began his career at Miles Laboratories in Elkhart, Indiana, and later owned and operated his own computer company for many years. An accomplished inventor, Stephen held two patents. He was also a poet and a lifelong learner with a deep curiosity about the world. He loved gardening and music, especially jazz, and took particular joy in studying mathematics.
Above all, he was devoted to his family and took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He is survived by Carol (Krizmanich), his beloved wife of 59 years; his sons, Stephen (Julie), and their daughters, Emma and Sophie; and John (Jamie), and their daughters, Eloise, Genevieve, and Josephine, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Johnson. Stephen was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be missed by all who knew him.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. on September 19, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in South Bend.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a donation to the Ernestine M. Raclin House through the Hospice Foundation at foundationforhospice.org/raclinhouse or by mail to Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
