Shirley Jean McFarland

Shirley Jean McFarland, born on January 12, 1936, in New Castle, PA, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2024, in South Bend, IN.  A devoted Catholic, Shirley was known for her unwavering faith and her positive spirit, which touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

Preceded in joining the Lord: Mother & Father, J.P. & Bertha McGuire, Brother Jack McGuire and Sister Madeline Vaught. Her husband and love of her life, Maurice McFarland.

She is survived by her two children, Bill McFarland and Pam (Tim) Concannon, along with her cherished grandchildren: Tim (Jessi) Concannon, Jen (Scott) Catanzarite, Mary (Andy) White, Caitlin Concannon, Christine (Kevin) Healy, Jonathan (Teresa) Concannon, Elizabeth Concannon, Joseph (Ellie) Concannon.  Her grandson, Sean Concannon precedes her in death. She also leaves behind 22 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way. 

Shirley cherished her time spent traveling with her beloved husband, Maurice "Morrie" McFarland. She found immense joy in being surrounded by her family and loved a good game of Euchre.
A true lover of the arts, Shirley enjoyed ballet and dance, and was an avid listener of Bob Marley, embodying the vibrant spirit of reggae music. She found happiness in reading, doing puzzles and traveling, with Jamaica being her favorite destination. She had a special fondness for chocolate and Maurice's homemade red wine. 

Shirley was an administrative assistant, known for her dedication and quiet strength. She led by example and was a positive influence on those around her. Her infectious smile will be missed.

Known affectionately as Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, and G-Ma, Shirley’s legacy of love and devotion will be remembered by her family and friends. Her impact on their lives will endure, as she leaves behind a beautiful example of faith, compassion, and unwavering love.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 27 2024 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr. South Bend, IN from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm. A rosary will be prayed at 4:30 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday October 28, 2024 at Christ the King Catholic Church at 11:00 am with visitation for one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made in Shirley’s honor to Christ the King Catholic Church. Online condolences may be left at www.kaniewski.com
