Sharon A. Hammond, 81, of Niles, Michigan passed away at 2:38 AM, Friday, June 6, 2025 in Hospice House. Sharon was born on July 15, 1943 in South Bend, Indiana to Edward and Helen (Kujawski) Starkweather. She loved people and was a greeter at the Meijer Store on Portage Road from 1997-2019, where she enjoyed her many friendships there. Sharon is survived by her companion, Donald Ray of Niles, Michigan; two sons, Donald (Joyce) White of Anderson, Indiana and Bart (Courtney) Bush of South Bend, Indiana; her step-daughter Debbie Harbaugh (David); her step-sons, Jim (Billy Jean) Hammond and Johnny (Sheila) Hammond; her son-in-law, Thomas Gustafson of South Bend, Indiana; grandchildren Luke, Lacee White, Cory Richards, Tyler (Olivia), Samantha, Star, Cambree, and Bryson Bush, Tiffani (Eric) Felder, Codie, and Brandi Gustafson, Derek, Dylan and CJ Hammond, Kayla Haley and Kyle Pierce; great-grandchildren Elijah Bush, Faith, Grace and Hope Felder, Lillian and McKenzie Hammond, Faith and Cadence Haley; her sister, Janet (Tim) Grueger of South Bend, Indiana; two brothers, Gerald (Paula) Starkweather of Osceola and Carl (Tanya) Starkweather of Ohio; and two sisters-in-law, Dawn Starkweather of North Carolina and Wei Starkweather of Rockville, Maryland. Sharon was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly Gustafson; and three brothers, Alan Starkweather, Ralph Starkweather and Eddie Starkweather. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2025 in Christ the King Catholic Church. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, where a rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. A visitation will also be held from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday in the church. Sharon was a 1961 graduate of New Carlisle High School. She was a former member of Corpus Christi Church. She loved growing beautiful flowers, especially purple flowers. She loved to travel in the semi-truck, go to the Shack. Some of her great grandchildren loved to call her Gigi. Memorial Contributions should be directed to the American Cancer Society.
