Rudolph E. Swider, 76, of South Bend, Indiana passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Rudolph was born on August 6, 1948 in Flint, Michigan to Robert and Madeline (Connors) Swider. On January 11, 1997, he married Mary Kay (Gruscinski) in St. Pius X Church, Granger, Indiana. Rudolph is survived by his wife, Mary Kay, and three sisters, Suzanne (Ronald) Bruhn of Fenton, Michigan, Kathleen (James) Sanders of Winter Haven, Florida and Joyce Habbershaw of Winter Haven, Florida, also by several nieces and nephews. Rudolph was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Madeline Swider; one sister, Madonna Swider in 2024, and one brother, Ronald Swider in 1997. He retired in 2001 from Honeywell, formerly the Bendix Corporation, where he was employed in the Energy Controls Division. Prior to his employment with Honeywell, he worked for Allegan Aviation, Inc. Rudolph was a 1973 graduate of Western Michigan University where he majored in Aviation Engineering Technology. He served in the United States Air Force. Rudolph was a member or the Alpha Eta Rho Aviation Fraternity and the Michiana Accordion Club. He enjoyed anything to do with aviation, ballroom dancing, and photography. He was an aviation mechanic and expert handyman who could fix anything. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. -- 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. -- 7:00 p.m. with a rosary starting at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana. Visitation also will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Friday in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 13, 2024 in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 1871 --136th Avenue, Dorr, Michigan, 49323. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Dorr, Michigan. Memorial contributions can be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
