Roscoe A. Hankins, Jr., of Niles, MI, passed away on Wednesday March 24, 2021 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Niles to the late Roscoe, Sr. and Patricia (Swanson) Hankins and was a lifelong area resident. He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Jenny White and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Connie and Robert Anderson. On June 19, 1982, in Niles, he married Nancy Mathews, who survives. He is also survived by his three sisters, Gracie Ritter of Niles, Irene (Dan) Moulds of Buchanan, MI and Mary Ann (Smitty) Swartz of South Bend, a brother, Wayne Hankins of Niles, his father-in-law, Clarence White of South Bend, niece, Ginny Matthys, nephew, William Anderson and by several other nieces and nephews. Roscoe worked as a Paper Maker for French Paper for 45 years, before retiring on December 4, 2014. He was a United States Army Vietnam Veteran and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and going to casinos. He was a kind and generous man and loved his animals, they will miss him! Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday March 28, 2021, at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday March 29, in the funeral home, where friends may visit for one hour prior to the service. Burial will conclude in Highland Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Pet Refuge or the Wounded Warrior Project.
