Ronald "Ron" C. Horvath

Ronald “Ron” Christopher Horvath, 75, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on May 17, 2023 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 21, 1948, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Dennis and Elsie (Raszipovits) Horvath, Sr. On June 26, 1971, in St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church, Ron married Sharon C. Bartosiak who survives. He is also survived by one son, Ryan D. (Wendy) Horvath of Indianapolis, Indiana, two grandchildren, Halley and Brock Horvath, one sister, Mary Beth (Jose) Hernandez of Elkhart, Indiana, two brothers, Dennis (Barbara) Horvath, Jr. of Elkhart, Indiana, Donald Horvath of South Bend, Indiana and several nieces and nephews.

Ron graduated from Riley High School in 1966 and started his working career at the family business, Horvath’s Meat Market.  He was a United States Army Veteran and served during the Vietnam War from 1968-1970. Ron received a Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Award, and a Purple Heart during his service in the war. He retired from the St. Joseph County Police Department after protecting his community for thirty years. 

A visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr. South Bend, IN from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. in the funeral home. Private family burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude Catholic Church or The Hospice Foundation in Ron’s honor.
