Robert "Bob" Norman Huyvaert

Robert ("Bob") Norman Huyvaert, age 96, of South Bend, passed away on July 28, 2026. A lifelong resident of the South Bend-Mishawaka area, he was born on October 27,1929, to Raymond and Virginia Huyvaert.

On May 15,1954, in Mishawaka, he married Ruth Vanderbosch, who survives. Also surviving are their six children: Diane Jenswold (Gary), Don Huyvaert (Sandra), Douglas Huyvaert (Diana), Dennis Huyvaert (Tamara), Dale Huyvaert (Tracy), and Dina Thompson (Steve). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three infant children, David, Daniel, and Dana.

Bob graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1947 and served honorably in the United States Army. Shortly after completing his military service, he began working for Bendix in South Bend, where he remained employed until the Brake Division relocated in 1986.

Throughout his life, Bob enjoyed both participating in and watching sports, but he found his greatest enjoyment in bowling and golf. During the winter months, he was a familiar presence in the Thursday night bowling league at Beacon Bowl. In the summer, he looked forward to spending Saturday mornings with his foursome at Elbel Golf Course.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 3rd at Dujarie House at Holy Cross Village at 1:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at the same location. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Dujarie House and Heart to Heart Hospice for the compassionate care and support they provided during Bob's final days.

Bob will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
