Richard P. Thomas

Richard P. "Dick" Thomas, 91, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Sunday at Southfield Village, South Bend.  He was born on August 8, 1932, in East Chicago, IN, to the late Michael Martin and Veronica Magadele (Piskorz) Thomas.  On February 23 1957, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend, he married Frances Mustak, who preceded him in death on May 3, 2019.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bernard L. Thomas and by three sisters, Laura M. Kowalski, Irene B. Wruble and Theresa Waggoner.  Richard is survived by his daughter, Mary Thomas of South Bend and by his three sons; Mark (Darla) Thomas of South Bend, Paul (Janice) Thomas of Hillsborough, N.C. and Michael (Kevin Hacker) Thomas of Chicago, IL; seven grandchildren, Holly and Erin Hanley, Estephania Nunez, Mary (Josh) Spangler, Ezra (Rachel) Thomas, Kaylee Thomas, Mamie (Patrick) Meagher and eight great-grandchildren.  Dick retired from the South Bend Police Department after 20 years of service.  He attended Crumstown Grade School and was a graduate of Riley High School.  Dick was a United States Marine Corp Veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of the Marine Corps League and the F.O.P. #36.  A visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday November 3, 2023 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home Chapel, 3545 N.
