Richard D. “Rich” Keenan passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026 with his family by his side at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He was 66. Born and raised in Philadelphia, he graduated from West Philadelphia Catholic High School for Boys in 1978 and was a proud alumnus of the University of Notre Dame, graduating in 1982 with degrees in accounting and finance.
Rich is survived by his beloved wife, Jane. He is also survived by his sisters Diane (Bart) O’Connor, Eileen (Ed) Solarz, Betty Ann, Janice (Jake) Kane, Joan (Bob) Gillies and brother Joseph. He is predeceased by his parents, John P. and Elizabeth Ann Keenan, and his brothers Jack and Dennis Keenan. Rich is also survived by sisters-in-law, Marie Keenan and Maryanna Phinn, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Monday, May 4 from 3 pm to 6 pm at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana. Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday, May 5 at 9:30 am at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, 101 Basilica Drive at the University of Notre Dame.
Internment immediately following at Cedar Grove Cemetery at the University of Notre Dame.
A memorial Mass for Rich will be held for anyone unable to travel to Notre Dame on May 9 at 10 am at St. Bridget’s Church, 3667 Midvale Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations to Order of Malta, American Association, 122 East 42nd Street, Suite 1900, New York, NY 10168 or Holy Family Home – Little Sisters of the Poor, 5300 Chester Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19143.
