Raymond James Camosy Obituary

Raymond James Camosy, 75, of South Bend, Indiana (formerly of Kenosha, Wisconsin) passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025, in his home and in the company of his wife and children. Ray was born on April 3, 1950 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Remo and Louise (Ferraro) Camosy. He attended Washington Junior High and Tremper High School, graduating in 1968. On August 16, 1974, in St. Columba Church, Ottawa, Illinois, he married Mary Ann Thompson, who survives. Ray is also survived by his children, Charlie (Paulyn), Bob, and Katie; his grandchildren, Jenie, Jonathan, Gina, and Thaddeus; and his siblings, Art (Diane Wilkinson) Camosy, Laurie (Morgan) Pearsall, Jean (David Himebrook) Camosy, and John (Debbie) Camosy.

A “Double Domer” and loyal son of Notre Dame, Ray received his BA in business from the University of Notre Dame in 1972. Forty years later, he received his masters in nonprofit business administration and taught Construction Management classes at Notre Dame as an adjunct professor from 2017 to 2019. He received two recognitions from the Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business: the Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, CSC Founder’s Award and the Recent Alumni Award. He retired as long-time President and CEO of Camosy Construction General Contractors.

Ray enjoyed astronomy, aviation, and photography. An epic story-teller, often too epic, Ray loved to share tales with family, friends, and unsuspecting strangers. Ray never met a pepperoni pizza he didn’t like and was happy spending time in his basement organizing, tinkering, and coming up with thoughtful ideas for Christmas presents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2025 in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto at Saint Mary’s College in South Bend, with visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
