Porter Michael Unger

Porter Michael Unger, 22, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 3:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2021.

He was born on January 9, 1999 to Michael A. and Suzanne F. (Rosier) Unger in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong area resident. 

Porter was a graduate of The Crossing School of Business & Entrepreneurship in South Bend, IN and was currently attending Indiana University South Bend.  Porter was presently employed at The Hammer & Quill in South Bend, where he thoroughly enjoyed working as a Mixologist for the last year.

Porter is survived by his loving and broken-hearted mother, Suzanne (husband Robert) Gisewite of South Bend, IN; his father, Michael Unger of South Bend, IN; paternal grandparents; Alfred and Susan Unger of New Carlisle, IN; two sisters, Emma Unger of South Bend, IN; Brittany (husband Terrence) Szczechowski of South Bend, IN; his niece, Gracelyn Szczechowski of South Bend, IN; and his fiancé, Jane Young of Granger, IN.

His great-grandmother, Elaine McIntyre preceded him in death.

Porter enjoyed the vibrancy of live music and was a very talented D.J.  He loved his friends and was always very encouraging to all of them and was always a shoulder to them when in need.  Porter was a cat lover to his two cats, Beans and Deci.  He loved long afternoons of kayaking with his friends. Porter was very intelligent in making the Dean’s List and was an avid Philosopher.  He will be dearly missed by all who loved him, especially Jane.   

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2021 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN.

Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, IN.  Burial will follow in Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles, MI.
