Peter F. Shaw

Peter Francis Shaw, 75, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. He was born on December 26, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Ronald Joseph and Dorothy (O’Brien) Shaw. On September 10, 1977 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in South Bend, Peter married Mary Judith Matt who survives him. He is also survived by two daughters, Jacqueline Shaw of South Bend, Indiana, Judith (Tom) Shaw of Niles, Michigan, three sons, Peter D. (Sarah) Shaw of Noblesville, Indiana, Andrew Shaw (Julia) of Washington, D.C. and Johnathan Shaw of South Bend, Indiana. Proud Papa of eleven grandchildren, Kerstin Madison, Sam Scope, Xavier Shaw, Josephine Phillips, Padriq Shaw, Liza Chasteen, Eleanor Shaw, Dustin Shaw, Tyler Chasteen, Theodore Amato and Liliana Amato, one brother, Michael (Harriet) Shaw and two sisters-in-law, Jean Shaw and Anita Shaw. Peter was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Shaw and John Shaw, and his father and mother-in-law, Fredrick and Judy Matt.

Peter enjoyed bike riding and would go on GOBA every June for a week, starting as a rider and eventually becoming a SAG driver. He was on the board for the Amateur Radio Club and would also assist the Red Cross. Peter loved tinkering around in the garage, especially wood working, from memorable signs to book shelves, often gifting his creations. He was always keeping busy, whether it was traveling, helping with Boy Scouts, Servant Camp, camping, or spending time with friends and family. 

A visitation for Peter will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026 from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at the People of Praise, 53666 N. Ironwood Dr., South Bend, IN 46635. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday August 22 at 11:00 am in Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 State Hwy 933, South Bend, IN 46637. Visitation will be held from 10:15 am until 11:00 am prior to the Mass. Peter will be buried at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The St. Joseph County Humane Society, 2506 Grape Rd, Granger, IN 46545 in Peter’s honor.
