Paulette Diane (Deranek) Hoover, 58, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, in Mishawaka, Indiana. She was surrounded by her family. Paulette was born on October 2, 1964, the fifth of eight children, to Paul T. and Jeanette (Wambaugh) Deranek, in South Bend. Growing up in a real-life Eight is Enough large loud South Bend family, the common refrain heard throughout the childhood home was “Elaine-Karen-Denise-Brenda-Paulette-David-Rita-Amy” as though just one name. Although the Deranek siblings each have their own distinct personalities, they are also inextricably linked to this day.
On February 21, 1998, she married Donny Hoover who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her father, Paul, and beloved aunt and uncle, Gwen and Cecil Jump. She is survived by her son, Timothy (Tiffany) Mangus of TX; her mother, Jeanette Deranek of South Bend, a brother, David (Karen) Deranek of Lakeville, IN; six sisters, Elaine (Rob) Laubner of North Liberty, IN, Karen (Dennis) Giles of Mishawaka, and by Denise Deranek, Brenda Deranek, Rita (Kevin) Wilson, all of South Bend, and by her favorite sister, Amy Deranek of South Bend, with whom she resided. She leaves behind four grandchildren, Olivia, Timothy James, Savannah, and Cohen Mangus, as well as countless nieces, nephews, and cousins, the Jumps.
Paulette enjoyed music, movies and cooking at the holidays (sweet potatoes being her signature dish). She was a hard worker and always ready to help someone in need, a trait she got from her mother. She had a graceful peace about her and loved a good laugh. She was generous, loyal, loved gardening, animals of all kinds with a special affinity for dogs, and most especially her family. She will be forever remembered by all that she knew.
The family would like to thank the dedicated medical professionals that provided her care in her final days.
A memorial visitation will be held from 3-7 pm on Tuesday, January 24, at Kaniewski Funeral Homes, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm. Private services and burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Resale to Rescue, Inc., 905 W. McKinley Ave., Mishawaka, IN 46545.
