Nora J. Davis

Nora J. Davis, 104, of New Carlisle, passed away on Friday November 29, 2024 at Hamilton Grove, New Carlisle. She was the second oldest of 12 children. 

She was born on March 3, 1920, in Mt. Vernon, IN to the late Walter C. and Audrey  Claire (McDaniel) Burks.  On March 6, 1938  she married Lyle Edward Davis, who preceded her in death on August 20, 1992.  She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rita Lloyd, four sisters, Ruby Richardson, Annitta Hisaw, Ruth Starkweather, and Vena Watson, three brothers, Clifford, Paul and Harold Burks, and one granddaughter.

Nora is survived by her two daughters, Sharon (Jim) Jones of Sawyer, MI and Donna (Ed) Swank of New Carlisle, her two sons, Marvin Davis of Depo Bay, OR and Charles H. (Barb) Davis of New Carlisle, one sister, Lois “Susie” Heckman of Lakeville, IN, three brothers, Jerry Burks of Osceola, IN, Richard (Carole) Burks of South Bend and John (Faye) Burks of Heflin, AL, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Davis worked for Easy Heat in New Carlisle for 24 years.  She attended the New Carlisle Community Church for many years.  She was an American Legion Auxiliary Member of Post #297, New Carlisle for 51 years and she enjoyed bowling, playing bingo and spoiling her family.  In her younger years she enjoyed fishing with her husband.

Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. EST Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert Street, New Carlisle, IN, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. EST in the funeral home.  Burial will take place in New Carlisle Cemetery.
