Michael J. Montalbano Obituary

Michael J. Montalbano, 66, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Mike was born on March 5, 1957 in Chicago, Illinois to Vincenzo and Mary Josephine (Pelletiere) Montalbano.  He was currently serving as a Professor at the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame.  On May 31, 1980, in the Immaculate Conception Church, Chicago, Illinois, he married Susan Heaberlin, who survives.  Mike is also survived by three sons, Vincent (Millicent) Montalbano of Austin, Texas, Thomas (Emily) Montalbano of Fort Mill, South Carolina and Dominic (Angela) Montalbano of Holliston, Massachusetts; seven grandchildren, Christian, Vera, Santino, Rocco, Maria, Luca and one grandchild “on the way”;  and his sister, Mary Jo (Edwin) Schillinger of Norwood Park, Illinois.  Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Vincenzo and Mary Josephine Montalbano; two sisters, Annette Montalbano and Rita Montalbano; and two brothers, Charles Montalbano and James Montalbano.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. Monday, November 13, 2023 in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart.  Inurnment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.  A visitation will be held from 2:00-5:00pm Sunday, November 12 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive South Bend, Indiana, where a rosary will be prayed at 4:00pm.  Mike was a graduate of Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.  He later went on to earn a Masters of Business Administration from Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts.  Over the course of his career in business, he served in many different roles including a Director at Viking Office Supplies, Vice President at Staples and CEO of Emedco.  He served as a Professor at Bentley University from 2003 to 2015 and at the University of Notre Dame from 2015 to 2023.  He also served on the Board of Advisors for Vigon International and Abveris before founding imprenditori and serving as a Managing Director at Verso Ministries of South Bend, Indiana.  He enjoyed playing basketball, poker and walking his dog Rowdy.  He loved to cook and watch Notre Dame football with his family.  He will be missed by his family, friends and students.  Memorial Contributions should be directed to Christ Child Society of South Bend, Indiana or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  To send online condolences, please visit kaniewski.com.
