Mary Ann Korabek

Mary Ann Korabek, 71, of Granger, Indiana passed away at home on Monday, July 14, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 23, 1954 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Alvin and Beverly (Smith) Torzewski. She married Stanley Korabek on June 19, 1976, whom she met at Loui’s Pizza on South Bend and Notre Dame Avenues. She was a student at Holy Cross School of Nursing and he was a South Bend Police Cadet. Together they had three beautiful and fiercely loyal children, Jacqueline (Michael) Moore, Allison (Neil) King and Mark (Courtney) Korabek, six grandchildren, Olivia, Ethan and Joshua Moore, Alaina King, Beau and Millie Korabek. She never missed one of their events even while suffering with great personal discomfort over the last six months. They never failed to evince anything but great pride and joy and lifted her spirits considerably. Oh, how she loved them!

Mary Ann graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1972 and enrolled in Holy Cross School of Nursing. She then worked as a surgical nurse at St. Joseph Hospital and then at Allied Surgery Center from which she retired. Her friendships made while she was working were intensely important to her and long lasting.

Stanley now looks forward to his eventual reunion with her and immediate nice and long road trip. Until then, as Glenn Campbell sang it, “Traveling the back roads of my memory keeps you ever gentle on my mind.”

Mary Ann is also survived by two brothers, Brian, and Mark (Michele) Torzewski and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brother David Torzewski and one brother-in-law, David Korabek.

A visitation for Mary Ann will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr. South Bend, IN. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Rd, Granger, IN at 10:30 am. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made in Mary Ann’s honor to St. Pius X Catholic Church.
