Marie Theresa Zack (May 15, 1931 - December 30, 2025)

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of our beloved Marie “Mary” Theresa Zack, age 94, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.

Mary was born to Alex and Gladys Dlugosz in South Bend, IN. Mary was a graduate of South Bend Catholic High School and spent most of her career as a secretary for the Notre Dame ROTC. She married her husband, Robert Zack, in 1954. She was proud of her Polish heritage and devout in her Catholic faith. Most special to Mary was the time throughout her life that she spent with her family as a wife, mother, Busia, sister, daughter, aunt, niece, and cousin. As a Busia, she was especially beloved by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who cherished any time spent at her house.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, Alex and Gladys; her siblings: Helen Golubski, Chester Dlugosz, and Irene Chwalek; and her son, Jim Zack. She is survived by her children: Diane (Bob) Buergler of Indianapolis, John (Stacy) Zack of Granger, Sandy (Scott) Francoeur of South Bend, and Kathy (John) Kennedy of South Bend; her grandchildren: Kylie (Matt) Salmon, Nicole and Alex Francoeur, Joe and Steven Zack, and Marty and Zach Kennedy; and her great-grandchildren: Allie, Brenton, and Jase Salmon.

To celebrate Mary’s life, a visitation at Kaniewski Funeral Homes (3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN 46628) will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2026, from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm, with a rosary said at 3:00 pm. A funeral mass will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (2822 Corpus Christi Dr, South Bend, IN 46628) on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 10:00 am with a burial service at Highland Cemetery (2257 Portage Ave, South Bend, IN 46616) following the Mass.
