Marie P. “Pat” Geitz, 81, of LaPorte, Indiana passed away at 4:50 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2026 in her home. Pat was born on December 9, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois and had lived locally since 1958. She had been employed as a Bank Teller and Hairstylist. On September 4, 1965 she married Charles Geitz, who preceded her in death on November 19, 1993. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Bill Kopkowski and her nephew, Johnny. Pat is survived by her daughter, Michele (Adam) Stayback of LaPorte, Indiana; her son, Jeffery (Mary) Geitz of Carpentersville, Illinois; six grandchildren, Samantha (Jesse) Guth, Tom (Jaae) Geitz, Dan (Carolina) Geitz, Christopher (Bea Escalante) Geitz, Katie (Trevor) Moore and Wade (Emma Hawkins) Stayback; two great-grandchildren, Freya and Josie; her brother Richard (Jennie) Kopkowski of New Carlisle, Indiana; two sisters-in-law, Suzanne Kopkowski Gadacz of Rolling Prairie, Indiana and Carolyn Berg of LaPorte, Indiana; and her nieces and nephews, Diane, Ed, Dana, Angie, Nathan, Joanie and Aaron. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. EST until 1:00 p.m. EST Saturday, May 30, 2026 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert Street, New Carlise, Indiana. Pat will be buried next to her husband in Willis Township Baptist Cemetery. Pat loved to travel, swim and read. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and was very proud of them. After her husband died, she spent Winters if Florida with her partner Jimmy and Summers in Canada with his family. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions should be directed to Breast Cancer Research or the Alzheimer’s Association.
