Marcia K. Hauser

Marcia K. Hauser, 79, of South Bend, Indiana (formerly of New Carlisle, Indiana) passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 in Memorial Hospital. She was born on June 6, 1944 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Charles J. and Rosemary (Kolupa) Hauser. She was preceded in death by one brother, Chuck Hauser. Marcia is survived by one daughter: Amy (Chris) Fewell of South Bend, Indiana, one son: Ethan H. Jones of Valparaiso, Indiana, four grandchildren: Claire E. Fewell, Luke D. Fewell, Zachary H. Fewell, and Henry A. Jones, and four sisters:Cynthia Hauser of Culver City, California, Elizabeth Clendenen of Stillwater, Minnesota, Cassandra Lamb of Carlsbad, California and Mary Hauser of New Carlisle, Indiana.

Marcia graduated from New Carlisle High School then returned to academics when her two children were grown.  She received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University South Bend and immediately applied for the Peace Corps, a lifelong dream of hers.  She enlisted for two years and reupped for another twobecause she loved teaching English as a second language so much.  She was stationed in Slovakia and traveled all through Europe during her time there and made friends everywhere she went. When she returned home, she continued to teach, working at IUSB teaching ESL until the month she passed away. She loved all of her students at IUSB that came from all over the world to learn English.

Marcia was very active and enjoyed gardening, refinishing furniture, and biking. She accomplished the Hilly Hundred bicycle tour several times in Bloomington. Her love for the Grateful Dead and the Beatles formed wonderful lifelong friendships with many lovely people. Her groups of friends were plenty, including the “Lacrosse Grandmas” and her Words with Friends ladies.

Her greatest love was her four grandchildren and she never failed to boast and brag about them every chance she got. She was their biggest supporter and never missed a sporting event, Grandparents Day, recital or graduation. You always knew she was there because of her “Razzle Dazzle”.  In the twenty-four years from the birth of her eldest grandchild until her own passing, “Grandma Marcia” never went more than a few weeks between visits with her grandchildren.

In the words of her favorite band, “Such a long, long time to be gone and a short time to be there”.

A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert St., New Carlisle, IN from 12:00 pm EDT until 4:00 pm EDT. A time of remembrance will be held at 4:00 pm in the funeral home. Marcia will be buried in New Carlisle Cemetery at a later date.
