Lula Coker Nash
Lula Coker Nash, born to William Coker and Ella Gayhart Coker, the fifth child, in Winslow, Indiana, August 2, 1924, passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Retirement Community in South Bend, Indiana on January 24, 2026. Lula graduated from Winslow High School in 1942, Lockyear's Business College in 1945 and was a “Rosie the Rivetter” for the P-47 Thunderbolt during WWII. On May 15, 1954, she married John D. Nash of South Bend, Indiana. She raised three sons and proudly put all three through college. On June 6, 1972, Lula earned her RN from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she served as Elder. Lula found joy in helping and encouraging others and in spending time with family and friends. Kind, humble, determined, generous and so loving, she lived her faith.
Lula was preceded in death by her brothers Frank Coker and Orville Coker; her sisters Lois Coker and Irene Coker; and her husband, John D. Nash. She is survived by her three sons and their families: by John D. Nash, Jr. and Jolene Wallace Nash and their children John III and Mai Nash (daughter Cylene), Jerrod and Emily Mitchell Nash (children Violet, Vivian and Victor), Jordan and Holly Finley Nash (sons Caleb and Eli), and Jennifer (Nash) Spriggs and Alex Spriggs; by James Nash and Debra Courtright Nash and their children Julia Nash and Andrew Nash; William Nash and his daughter Evelyn Nash; and niece Judy Coker Frazier with whom she was very close. There will be no visitation or services.
