Leona Taberski Kintz, 93 of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2023 at Wellbrooke of South Bend. She was born on November 4, 1930 in Tyner, Indiana to the late Leo and Hattie (Waletzko) Taberski. On August 26, 1950 she married John “Jack” Kintz who preceded her in death on July 15, 2012. She was also preceded in death on October 29, 2022 by one son, Edward Kintz, three sisters, Constance Klipich, Virginia Kish and Patricia Mathis and two brothers, Robert and Gerald Taberski. Leona is survived by three children, Jeanine Fisher of Fort Wayne, Indiana, David (Lin) Kintz of South Bend, Indiana, Kathleen Kintz of South Bend, Indiana, eight grandchildren, Simon (Bonnie) Fisher, Jessie (Kathryn) Fisher, Martha (Matt Bassett), Sarah (John) Urbanski, Marcia (Colin) Nolan, Barbara Kintz, Melissa (Rami) Sadek and Adam Kintz, twenty-one great grandchildren and one daughter in law, Mary Kintz. Leona loved to be in charge. She was involved in leadership roles in the local Republican Party and was awarded the Circle of Distinction for her contribution in 2010. She was the manager of the South Bend Bureau of Motor Vehicles until she retired in 1999. Her family of origin held annual reunions for over one hundred years and she served as president over these gathering for 35 plus years. Leona will be dearly remembered by all her family members for the many, many holiday and birthday celebrations that she hosted (and made sure everyone attended!). In addition, she enjoyed camping and mushroom hunting with her husband and friends. You could often find her working out crossword puzzles, she made the best oven fried chicken and everyone looked forward to her Christmas kiefles. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Christ the King Church for over 50 years. Leona will be dearly missed but leaves us with our hearts filled with memories. A visitation will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, IN from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A rosary will be prayed at 5:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 State Hwy 933, South Bend, IN 46637 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made in Leona’s honor to Christ the King Catholic Church. Online condolences may be left at www.kaniewski.com
