Lawrence E. Gay

Lawrence E. “Larry” Gay, 77, of South Bend, Indiana passed away peacefully at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on January 23, 1944 in Michigan City, Indiana to Everett George and Kathryn Eleanor (May) Gay.  Lawrence retired in 2019 from the University of Notre Dame, where he was employed as OIT Network Installer.  He had also been employed with Indiana Bell and AT&T.  On August 19, 1968 he married Susan K. Young.  After they got married, they went to live in Fairbanks, Alaska for two years while Lawrence was stationed there in the Army. (he always told her it was a long honeymoon)  Lawrence is survived by his daughter, Barbara King of Bremen, Indiana; his son, Robert (Melissa) Gay of South Bend, Indiana; five grandchildren, Jarod, Madelyn, Douglas, Emily and Mason; his brother Richard (Martha) Gay of Peoria, Illinois; and two girls from a previous marriage, Sue and Pam.  Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife Susan; his daughter, Cheryl; and his grandson, Tyler. Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2021in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana.  A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.  Lawrence served in the United States Army from 1968 – 1974.  He enjoyed puzzles and building Legos with Mason. He loved his grandchildren and spending time outdoors with his grandson Mason. Memorial Contributions may be directed to Riley Hospital for Children.
