Larry Charles Alward

Larry Charles Alward, 77, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born on December 31, 1948 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Robert C. and Nettie C. (Prater) Alward. Larry is survived by one daughter, Deanna (Joshua Boilini) Anspaugh of Walkerton, Indiana, three grandchildren, Cole Anspaugh, Brooke and Hunter Dawson, one brother, Robert Alward of South Bend, Indiana, four nieces and nephews, Paul Salyer of Walkerton, Indiana, Tina Plunkett of Walkerton, Indiana, Robert Alward, Jr. of South Bend, Indiana, Brian Alward of Sarasota, Florida, his longtime girlfriend of twenty years, Gail Benson of South Bend, Indiana and one step daughter, Lisa Dawson of South Bend, Indiana. He was also preceded in death by one son, Larry Alward and one sister, Carolyn Sue “Susie” Salyer.

Larry worked as truck driver. He enjoyed dancing and bowling. Larry loved race cars and going to the drag strip. He was a dancer on American Band Stand. He had a lot of friends that he enjoyed spending time with, especially for his birthday parties on New Years Eve. Larry was a member of The American Legion Post #284.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr. South Bend, IN. Memorial contributions may be made in Larry’s honor to The American Cancer Society.
