Kenneth Paul Fedder

Kenneth Paul Fedder, 91, of South Bend, Indiana passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 and is once again holding hands with his beloved wife, Barbara.  Together, they will share eternal peace after 50 years of marriage built on a lifetime of love, devotion, and memories.  Kenneth was born on July 30, 1934 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Edwin H. and Alvina (nee Wozniak) Fedder and graduated from St. Joseph’s College in 1956 before earning his Juris Doctor from Indiana University in 1960.  Kenneth was predeceased by his wife, parents and brother, Richard Edwin Fedder and is survived by his daughter Catherine M. Fedder; four sons, Mark T. (Ann-Marie) Fedder, Richard E. (Nancy) Fedder, John M. (Jaime) Fedder and Shaun P. (Natalie) Fedder; twelve grandchildren, Sarah (Kyle) Scheffel, Brooke Fedder, Katie (Dominic) Spigolon, Nicklus and Lane Fedder, Madelynn and Sadie Fedder, Danny Yates, Michael (Tiffany) Yates, Rachel (Eric) Uitdenhowen, Cody (Logan) Kankel and Shelby (Brian) Huss, and numerous great-grandchildren.  A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at St. Anthony de Padua Church – 2310 E. Jefferson Boulevard, South Bend, Indiana from 9:00am to 11:00am followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial.

Ken began his career and service to community with his 1962 appointment as Assistant United States Attorney for Northern Indiana and throughout his distinguished career, Ken earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and constituents alike as an accomplished attorney, longtime Chairman of the St. Joseph County Democratic Party and steadfast civic leader.  Ken was later appointed Chief Deputy Prosecutor for St. Joseph County, Indiana before entering decades long private practice where he built a reputation as an attorney of integrity, fairness and honesty.  Ken loved politics and as leader of the county Democratic Party, was a civic force.  Family and friends often recall fascinating stories about Ken and his incredible life, such as when Senator Robert Kennedy phoned and asked Ken to personally escort him through South Bend on Dyngus Day.  Wherever Ken went, legendary stories always seemed to follow.  Throughout his life, Ken was entrusted with numerous positions of leadership and responsibility.  He served as long-time attorney for the St. Joseph County Economic Development Commission, attorney for the St. Joseph County Board of Zoning Appeals and served on the Board of Directors for Sobieski Bank and South Bend Lathe.

Despite his many professional accomplishments, Ken measured success not by titles held, but by relationships built, especially with his closest friends he simply called ‘The Boys’.  Together, they travelled extensively to play golf, gamble, attend Notre Dame Football games, meet for the standing Wednesday lunch and make lifetime memories.  Those friendships were deep and surpassed only by the love he held for his family.  Ken prioritized family, traveled the world with his wife, shared his love of history with his kids and above all, ensured that his family wanted for nothing.

In the end, he “lived a life that’s full, travelled each and every highway, and more, much more than this, he did it his way”.  In lieu of flowers the family asks you find a comfortable seat at your favorite slot machine, remember Ken and smile.
