Kathleen Jun (Magyar) Obituary

Kathleen Mary Jun (Magyar), known to many as "Kathy", passed away unexpectedly on April 28, 2024, in South Bend, IN, at the age of 77. She was born on March 9, 1947, also in South Bend, IN. Kathleen was a passionate, loving, generous, witty, acerbic, and thoughtful woman who dedicated her life to her love of words, music, and beauty. She was a freelance writer, editor, and prolific poet, as well as the editor of publications for the American Heart Association and numerous colleges. Kathleen dedicated her time as a volunteer for the McKinney Avenue Trolley and the Christ the King Catholic Church of Dallas, TX, especially their choir. She is survived by her husband, Raymond V. Magyar, her daughters Lara (Jeremy) Magyar-Groom and Elva Pellouchoud, her sister Cheryl (David) Jeffers, her brother Richard (Carmen) Jun, her sister Michelle (David) Remley, her granddaughters Autumn (Dylan) Bass, Charlotte (Hera) Magyar, Rhianna Groom, her grandson Marshall Groom, and two great-grandchildren. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Rita Jun. Kathleen's educational journey led her to Purdue University where she studied journalism, communication, theater, and political science. Still, ultimately her heart belonged to Notre Dame where she got her first job in publishing and her love of the Fighting Irish football team and their marching band flourished. In her free time, she enjoyed picking out the perfect greeting cards and sending them to a massive list of correspondents for every holiday possible, reading voraciously, and collecting all things penguin. A funeral service is scheduled for June 3, 2024 at 11:00 am with visitation for one hour prior to the Mass, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. Contributions in Kathleen's memory can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation or Broadway Cares. The Kaniewski Funeral Home in South Bend, IN, is assisting with the funeral arrangements.
