Karen Pennino, 86, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. She was born on November 19, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Thomas and Erlene (Nesse) Winder. On July 16, 1955 she married Frank A. Pennino who preceded her in death on May 16, 2015. Karen is survived by one daughter, Catherine (Charles) Huddlestun of Elkhart, Indiana, three sons, Richard (Jill) Pennino of South Bend, Thomas (Caroline) Pennino of South Bend, Indiana and Anthony “Tony” (Elizabeth “Buffy”) Pennino of South Bend, Indiana, five grandchildren, Nicholas, Cecilia, Madison, Isabella and Frank, five step great grandchildren, Nico, Chloe (Derek), Grant, Garrett and Steven, one great grandchild, Louis Anderson and one great step-grandchild, Abriel. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Steven Pennino and two brothers, Wayne and Allen Winder.
Karen was a 1955 graduate of Glenbard High School. She loved to travel and garden. She had a strong passion for art. She especially loved abstract oil painting. She had a studio in downtown South Bend where she would paint and sell her work at various art shows and galleries. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Watercolor Society Member, Women’s Caucus for Art and Michiana Minatare Association. Karen’s biggest joy in life was her family and cherished all the time they spent together.
A visitation for Karen will be held on Saturday February 4, 2023 from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr. South Bend, IN. A Catholic Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm in which the visitation will continue after the brief service. Inurnment will be at a later date in Highland Cemetery.
