On Saturday, August 24, 2024, Marcell Cooreman lost the love of his life, his New Prairie High School sweetheart, Judy Cooreman. Judy was born on October 12, 1953 in South Bend, Indiana to Stephen and Rose (Halassy) Horvath and grew up on their dairy farm in New Carlisle, Indiana. Coming close to celebrating 48 years of marriage, on September 4, 1976, she married Marcell P. Cooreman, who survives. Judy is also survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Brad) Hartman of White Pigeon, Michigan and Dana Cooreman of New Hartford, New York; one brother, Allen (Gay) Horvath of New Carlisle, Indiana; and one sister-in-law, Jeannine Horvath of New Carlisle, Indiana. Judy was preceded in death by her daughter, Stacy Cooreman; one brother, Richard Horvath; and her parents, Stephen and Rose Horvath. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 30, 2024 in Holy Family Church. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana. A visitation will also be held from 9:30 until 10:30 Friday in the funeral home. Judy worked for close to 20 years as a part time clerk for the St. Joseph County Small Claims Court, but her primary focus was on raising and spending time with her daughters, and helping with her husband’s farming operation which included bookkeeping, running errands and delivering meals to the field. She enjoyed shopping, planting flowers, attending concerts (especially the Beach Boys), watching television series, dining out with friends, and caring for pets and homeless cats. In her earlier years, she enjoyed sewing, crafting, snowmobiling, bike riding and walking. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be directed to the ALS Association or Pet Refuge.
