Josephine "Josie" Louise Sult-Feeks Obituary

Our beloved Josie Lou was a radiant spark of joy, a light for her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her unexpected passing on December 21, 2024, leaves us heartbroken beyond words.

Born November 3, 2023 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend to parents Mary Christeta Feeks and David Michael Sult, Josephine Louise was a perfect companion to her older sister Lillian. Josie adored Lilly, laughing at her every antic, mimicking her silliness and reveling in their shared play. One of Josie's favorite games was tossing Cheerios to the floor, giggling as Lilly eagerly picked them up again and again. Her joy was endless and infectious.

Josie was the happiest and sweetest baby who lit up the room with her big brown eyes and irresistible dimples. She had the remarkable gift of being happy and making others happy all the time. Her doting cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents delighted in playing with her, and she had a way of engaging and captivating them all with her gentle, loving, and darling demeanor. Josie had an uncanny ability to sense when someone's spirit needed lifting; she would spread her tiny arms wide, her face glowing with a beautiful smile upon recognition of a loved one, inviting them into her embrace.

Josie’s middle name ‘Louise’ was given to her in honor of her great-great grandmother Mary Louise Cressy Miller, whose delight in life and delicate temperament she shared. On her first birthday, Josie surprised everyone by refusing to dig into her birthday cake, displaying a careful sense of neatness instead. Though she could exhibit a flair of drama if her dinner wasn’t right on time, it only added to her charm.

She loved rocking her baby dolls, and “feeding” them bottles, and often left us mesmerized with her perfectly round mouth slowly shaping and exclaiming “Wow!”. She squealed with delight and smiled with pride as she was learning to take her first steps, and every small milestone with Josie was a moment of wonder for all who loved her.

Josie’s innocent and unconditional love was a treasure that brought comfort and inspiration to everyone around her. Though our time with her was heartbreakingly brief, it was the greatest joy of our lives. We are grateful for all she was able to show and teach us in such a short amount of time, and will strive to continue embracing life with the same joy and delight as Josie. Her bright and unique soul will live in our hearts, and we will forever cherish sweet Josie Lou's memory with deepest gratitude.

Josie is survived by her father and mother David Sult and Mary Christeta Feeks of Mishawaka, Indiana; her sister, Lillian Beverly Sult-Feeks; maternal grandparents, Michael and Bridget Feeks of Mishawaka, Indiana; maternal great-grandmother, Beverly Bradley; and paternal grandparents, David and Deborah Sult of South Bend, Indiana.

Josie was preceded in death by her maternal great great-grandparents, Clem and Mary Louise Miller;  maternal great-grandparents, Sandra and Edmon Feeks; maternal great-grandfather, Edward Bradley; paternal great-grandparents, John and Lillian Sult; and paternal great-grandparents, James and Sylvia Montague.
