John S. Hosinski John S. Hosinski, 68, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2026. Born on February 21, 1958, in South Bend, Indiana, John was the son of the late William A. Hosinski and Martha (Mitten) Hosinski. A lifelong resident of the South Bend community, John dedicated his life to serving others through his family, his faith, and his distinguished legal career. John earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University before receiving his Juris Doctorate from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 1990. Following his admission to the Indiana State Bar that same year, he practiced law in South Bend for more than 34 years. John focused primarily on criminal defense and general civil law, earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike for his integrity, compassion, and steadfast commitment to justice. He also proudly served as a panel attorney for the St. Joseph County Public Defender’s Office, ensuring quality legal representation for those unable to afford private counsel. Earlier in his career, John served four years as a member of the South Bend Common Council, demonstrating his lifelong dedication to public service and his community. While John found great purpose in his profession, his greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a constant source of love and encouragement to his children. He cherished every opportunity to spend time with them and took immense pride in all they accomplished. Outside of work, John was an avid sports fan who rarely missed cheering on his beloved Indiana Hoosiers, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Bears. He also enjoyed golfing, reading, playing his piano, and most importantly, completing his daily crossword in the Chicago Tribune. John is survived by his loving wife, Michelle (Burns) Hosinski of South Bend; his daughter, Hattie Estelle Hosinski of Chicago, Illinois; his three sons, Samuel John Hosinski of State College, Pennsylvania, Jacob Aloysius Hosinski of South Bend, Indiana, and Louis Benjamin Hosinski of South Bend, Indiana; his sisters, Claire (Jack) Sanford of Camden, Maine, and Anne (Andy) Maden of Portland, Oregon; and his brothers, Paul (Liz) Hosinski of South Bend, Indiana, and Peter (Jeanne) Hosinski of Stamford, Connecticut. He was preceded in death by his parents, William A. and Martha (Mitten) Hosinski. John will be remembered for his kind heart, his compassion for those he represented, and his commitment to public service. To know John was to love him. He always found the good in the bad situation. John had the ability to make people laugh wherever he went, and he could make friends with anyone. His kindness, wit, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all whose lives he touched. A visitation for John will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N.
