Joanne Lucille Humphrey

Joanne Lucille Humphrey, 88, of New Carlisle, Indiana passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022. Joanne was born on March 11, 1934 in Wessington, South Dakota to the late John and Anna (Betik) Zvonek.  Joanne married Stanley Joseph Humphrey on June 25, 1955, who preceded her in death on March 15, 2012.  She is survived by two sons, Thomas (Paula) Humphrey of New Carlisle, Indiana, Scott (Penny) Humphrey of Centerview, Missouri, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

Joanne, the youngest of five siblings, grew up on a farm a few miles outside the small town of Wessington.  After meeting and marrying Stan, they moved to Rapid City, SD.  Stan and Joanne moved to Michigan City, IN for work and lived there until they retired and eventually moved to New Carlisle, IN.  She worked different jobs as a secretary and hospital cashier.  With both her sons in the Scouts, Joanne became a Den Mother for many years for St. Mary’s Cub Scout Pack 842 in Michigan City, IN.  Her creative nature was a special spark for the Cub Scout Pack. 

Anyone who knew Joanne knows she had a special fondness for cats. She enjoyed sharing several stories of her childhood antics and her pets.  Joanne also enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and trivia.  Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

A memorial mass will be held for Joanne on Friday December, 30 at 2:00pm in St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, 55756 Tulip Rd. New Carlisle, IN. She will be buried at a later date next to her husband in Black Hills National Cemetery in South Dakota. Online condolences may be left at www.kaniewski.com
