Salt Lake City, IN—Janet Travis, 79, went to be with her Lord and Savior on the morning of Thursday January 11, 2024, at Hamilton Communities, New Carlisle, IN. She was born on June 3, 1944, in Salt Lake City, UT, to the late Clarence “Don” and Rhea “Verle” (Stewart) Weiss. She was a devout Lutheran and attended grade school at St. John’s Lutheran Church and graduated from Granite High School in 1964.

Janet worked as a phone operator for Mountain Bell Telephone Company and as a secretary for All Purpose Windows and Doors in Salt Lake City, UT. She moved to New Carlisle in 2015, coming from Salt Lake City, UT.

After meeting the love of her life, Janet became the devoted wife of William Travis from 1974 until his death in 2009. She was a loving mother to Laura (Tim) Valdez of Raton, NM, and Mike (Betsy) Travis of La Porte, IN. Also, the proud grandmother of Chris Thompson, Nathaniel Hebron, Colton Travis, Nick Travis, Hailey Hostetler, and Luke Travis and one great grandson Marcus Thompson. Janet was the trusted sister to her twin, Janice Beaudry of Caldwell, ID, an older sister, Carol Moore of Las Vegas, NV, a younger brother, James “Jimmy” (Margie) Weiss of Waldport, as well as many nieces and nephews. She had two siblings who preceded her in death: sister Tamera “Tami” Lee Richards, and brother Gary Donald Weiss. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Don and Verle, and her husband William.

Janet was selflessly generous to those around her. She loved spending time with her family, and also enjoyed crafting, especially creating diamond art paintings.

A funeral service will be on Thursday, January 18 at 11:00 AM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Millcreek. A viewing will be held one hour prior. Guests are encouraged to use parking and entrance located on the north side of the building. She will be laid to rest following services at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South, Salt Lake City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross or St. John’s Lutheran Church. Services have been entrusted to Starks Funeral Parlor.
