James R. Machowiak

James R. Machowiak, 78, of South Bend, passed away unexpectedly on Monday July 17, 2023 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.

He was born on August 14, 1944, in South Bend, to the late Michael and Helen (Derda) Machowiak.  On June 10, 1967 he married Sandra K. Lewandowski, who preceded him in death on December 4, 2017. 

James is survived by his three daughters; Michaelene “Micki” (James) Galwas-Machowiak of Niles, MI, Lori (Jim) Jester of South Bend and Julie (David) Wells of Niles, his son, J.R. (Amber) Machowiak, six grandchildren; Melyssa (Wayne) Oberholtzer, Abigail (Kristofer) Guerrero, Noah Galwas, Jimmy Jester, Isaac Machowiak and Adeline Machowiak and by two great-grandchildren, Eva and Nola Guerrero.

Mr. Machowiak owned several businesses in the South Bend area, including J&S Dairy and J&S Service Center.  He was a United States Army Veteran and enjoyed the life that he built for his family.

A memorial visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday July 21, 2023 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend.  Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 6 p.m.
