James Patrick Zack (April 26, 1964 - June 25, 2025)

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of our beloved James “Jim” Patrick Zack, age 61, who passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025. Jim’s love of his family, friends, and faith gave him strength and comfort as he battled with cancer this year. Jim was loved by so many as a father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, cousin, nephew, godfather, and friend.

Jim was born to Robert and Marie (Dlugosz) Zack in South Bend, IN. Jim was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School in 1982 and Purdue University in 1986. Jim recently worked at Denver Mattress after retiring from the Sony Corporation.

Jim was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs, Notre Dame and Purdue sports, and auto racing. He also enjoyed going on his yearly Florida trips, listening to the blues, silently managing his sister’s fantasy football team, sharing his love of aviation with his daughter and grandchildren, and watching TV late at night with his nieces and nephews. Above anything else, Jim or G-Pa loved spending time with his daughter, son-in-law, and three wonderful grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Robert Zack, and is survived by his mother, Marie Zack of South Bend; his daughter, Kylie (Matt) Salmon of Rosedale; his grandchildren, Allie, Brenton, and Jase Salmon of Rosedale; his siblings: Diane (Bob) Buergler of Indianapolis, his twin John (Stacy) Zack of Granger, Sandy (Scott) Francoeur of South Bend, and Kathy (John) Kennedy of South Bend; and his nieces and nephews Justin and Tanner Jaeger, Nicole and Alex Francoeur, Joe and Steven Zack, Garrett Johnson and Lauren Bishop, and Marty and Zach Kennedy.

To celebrate Jim’s life, a visitation at Kaniewski Funeral Homes (3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN 46628) will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm with a rosary said at 6:30 pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church (52553 N. Fir Road, Granger, IN 46530) on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 10:00 am, with a burial service at Cedar Grove Cemetery (100 Cedar Grove Cottage, Notre Dame IN 46556) following the Mass.
