Hugo A. “Hugh” Tomchak, 89, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 1:45 a.m. Monday, August 1, 2022, in his home. Hugo was born on April 13, 1933 in Lakeside, Michigan to Clement and Mabel (Perham) Tomchak. He was a partner for over 50 years at Flowers and Tomchak Accountancy Corp.  On September 5, 1953 in St. Matthew Cathedral, he married Patricia Witt, who survives.  They celebrated and shared 69 years of a loving marriage.  Hugo is also survived by two daughters, Anne M. Jank of South Bend, Indiana and Victoria L. Miller of Mishawaka, Indiana; one son Bennet W. (Michelle) Tomchak of Elkhart, Indiana; six grandchildren, Kevin (Christine) Flaherty, Danielle (Jonathan) Bartkowiak, Paige Tomchak, Jordan Jank, Kelly (Mr. Dana Cantrell) Miller, and Sean (Elizabeth) Miller; one foster grandson, Sargeant Hunter Perkins, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; one son-in-law, Michael (Tammie) Flaherty of Cincinnati, Ohio;  five great-grandchildren, Sophia Miller, Connor Miller, Catherine “Kay” Flaherty, Joanna Flaherty and Theodora “Teddie” Flaherty; and two sisters, Patsy Ann Wilson of Michigan City, Indiana and Barbara A. (Rudy) Gurrola of The Villages, Florida. Hugo was preceded in death by his parents, Clement and Mabel Tomchak; one daughter, Cindy Flaherty; and his brother, Keith Mann. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2022 in Christ the King Catholic Church, where members of the United States Army will conduct Military Services.   Hugo loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  He loved travelling, reading and was avid solitaire player and statistician.  He was excellent public speaker and wicked send of humor.   A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Saturday in the church. Hugo was a 1951 graduate of Central Catholic High School, South Bend, Indiana, and 1953 Graduate of the South Bend College of Commerce.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 – 1955 and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. Hugo was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Hugo was a past president of the National Society of Public Accountants and the Indiana Society of Public Accountants. He was a past Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Les Mans Academy. He was elected to the Indiana Accountants Hall of Fame. Hugo was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the National Society of Public Accountants.  He served 6 years on the State Board of Accountants and was appointed by 2 governors. He served approximately 15 years as the Finance Chair for Christ the King Church.   Memorial Contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association or the Lupus Foundation of America.  Kaniewski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
