Halina (Kiliszewska) Lewiecki

Halina Lewiecki, 94, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 9:12 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2021 in her home.

She was born on June 19, 1927 to the late Anthony and Helena (Makiel) Kiliszewski in Rypin, Poland, and has lived in South Bend, IN since 1952, coming from Poland.  Along with her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Lewiecki; one sister; and one brother. 

During World War II, Russia took over Poland and sent Halina and her mother to a Russian Labor Camp for a few years.  They than migrated to Germany, where she lived for five years, before coming to America, arriving in New York in November 1951. While she was living in Germany, she met her future husband, Julian Lewiecki at the American Consulate and they reunited in New York.  On June 18, 1952, as Halina Kiliszewska, she married Julian Lewiecki in New York, New York.  He passed away on May 24, 2004.

Halina is survived by her two sons, Julian F. (wife Robin) Lewiecki of South Bend, IN; Robert Lewiecki of South Bend, IN; four grandchildren, Evan, Adam (wife Ashley), Connor (fiancee Jamie Malicki) and Laura Lewiecki, all of South Bend, IN; and two great grandchildren, Caroline and Ophelia.

Halina was a member of Corpus Christi Parish.  She loved gardening, cooking Polish food, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2822 Corpus Christi Drive, South Bend, IN.  Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregiver, Penny Shafer and the staff at Grace Hospice who helped take care of Halina the last few months of her life.
