Geraldine "Gerry" (Tschida) Dickey

Geraldine “Gerry” Dickey, 93, of Notre Dame, IN, passed away at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2022 in Schubert Villa at Holy Cross Village, Notre Dame, IN.

Gerry was born on June 19, 1928 to the late Edward and Florence (Grabner) Tschida in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong area resident.  Along with her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, James A. “Jim” Dickey; and a sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Fred Kanouse.

She graduated in 1946 from St. Joseph’s Academy in South Bend, IN. 

On February 2, 1952, as Geraldine “Gerry” Tschida, she married James A. “Jim” Dickey.  He passed away on October 2, 2009.

Gerry retired on December 31, 2008 from the South Bend Tribune, where she worked as a secretary for 55 years.

She is survived by her sister, Jeanette Canter of Hereford, AZ; and her Godchildren, Gina (Mast) Shipley of Fishers, IN; and Mark Mast of Mishawaka, IN.

Gerry was a member of St. Patrick Parish in South Bend, IN and the Christ Child Society.  She had an extremely servant heart and donated to many various charities.  Gerry loved to read, garden, do needlework, eat finer foods, and enjoyed eating and baking pastries.  She looked forward to her Friday evening phone calls with her sister Jeanette; playing Bridge and Mah Jongg with her friends at Andre Place; and loved watching old classic Western Movies.  Gerry and her husband Jim were also world travelers.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 309 S. Taylor Street, South Bend, IN.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday in the church.  Interment will take in St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.
