Georgia Boyer Obituary

Georgia A. Boyer, 87, of South Bend, Indiana went to be with our Holy and Loving

God on Good Friday, March 29, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was born on

September 10, 1936 in St. Joseph, Michigan to the late George M. and Crystal G.

(Snow) Barnes. Georgia graduated from Paw Paw High School and Western

Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and Psychology. After

college she worked as a social worker for several years. While in college, she met

the love of her life and was married on May 17, 1958 to her husband Donald L.

Boyer, who preceded her in death on August 18, 2019. Georgia is also preceded in

death by one infant son Gregory.

She is survived by one daughter, Melissa Boyer of South Bend, Indiana, one son,

Timothy (Tammy) Boyer of Edwardsburg, Michigan, four grandchildren, Erik

(Samantha) Boyer, Matthew (Magdalene) Boyer, Andrew Boyer and Katelyn Boyer,

two great grandchildren, Amelia Boyer and Kinsley Boyer, two brothers, Robert

(Theresa) Barnes of Montrose, Colorado, Thomas (Shirley) Barnes of Kalamazoo,

Michigan one sister-in-law, Carol Boyer of Buchanan, Michigan and several nieces

and nephews.

Georgia was passionate about elementary education as shown in her professional

career and volunteer activities at her beloved church home, Northwest United

Methodist Church. Georgia served faithfully on the leadership committee at

Northwest. She was very involved with the missions of the church, organizing the

church in supporting Jubilee Christmas and serving breakfast several days per

month at Broadway Christian Parish. She helped establish the Friends of Christ

program, regularly providing food for the weekly program that served group home

residents in our community. Georgia also read regularly in the Children's Learning

Center and was a member of our Funeral Meal program. She dressed up as

different bible characters to teach various VBS/Sunday School events, and sent a

birthday card in the mail for every person in the congregation.

She was very active in the lives of her grandchildren and played an essential role in

raising them. She loved creating activities for them to complete as a family like

making Christmas candy, planting flowers, and creating various school projects

from poster boards to shoebox models. Georgia was a jazz lover, an active reader

of books especially written by James Patterson, and enjoyed cooking for her loved


The visitations will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 from 5:30 pm until 7:30

pm and Thursday April 11, 2024 at 10:00 am followed by a Celebration of Life

service beginning at 11:00 am at The First United Methodist Church, 333 N. Main

St., South Bend, IN. Our long-time and beloved Pastor Vickie Van Nevel will be

presiding over the Celebration of Life. Georgia will be buried in Oak Ridge

Cemetery in Buchanan, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to The
