Gene E. Moore

Gene E. Moore, Navy CPO (RET) 96 of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025. He was born on November 3, 1928, in New Carlisle, Indiana, to the late Leroy and Bonnie (Pease) Moore. On April 5, 1952, he married Janiece (Street) Moore, who preceded him in death on August 1, 2018. Edie O’Malley, who was married on October 20, 2019, survived him.

Gene and Janiece had five children: Susan Moore, deceased September 28, 2022 (Charles Burns), Terry (Robert) O’Donnell, Kimber (Jeff) Michels, Steven (Cindy) Moore, and Jennifer (Tim Masters) Moore. Eleven grandchildren, Vernon (Margaret) O’Donnell, Kevin (Erin) O’Donnell, Ava (Luke Goodman) Burns, Rae Burns, Andrea (Ryan) Meyer, Allison (Mark Shetterly) Moore, Nathan (Kate) Lake, Dustin Lake, Ryan (Jamena) Lake, Kristin (Kyle) Harmon, Justin Michels. Twenty-two Great-Grandchildren, Ryder, Ryese, Amelia, Adam, Asher, Lincoln, Harper, George, Clark, Everett, Whitman, Langston, Norah, Finnegan, Phoebe, Blair, Nolan, Cain, Avery, J.T., Mason and Peyton. Gene was preceded in death by his two brothers, Charles (Norma) Moore and William (Ethel) Moore.

He was a 1947 New Carlisle High School graduate and enlisted in the Navy that year. He was a career Navy Electrician and retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. He enjoyed his Navy years with his wife, Janiece, and children, living in Hawaii for 8 years. In the 20 years he was enlisted, he traveled to over 40 countries. After he retired from the Navy, he was employed at AEP as a Line Supervisor for over 20 years. Gene and Janice, after retirement, toured the country in a motor home, traveling internationally to 20 different countries and settling in Arizona for 27 years. They moved back to Indiana in 2015 to be closer to family until Janice passed away in 2018.

Gene continued to play bridge, enjoy crossword puzzles, and spend time with his wife, Edie. Edie was a valuable part of the family, taking great care of Dad for the last five years. Our family will always appreciate the care and love she gave Dad.

We will always remember Dad as a loving, fun Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather. He enjoyed being around his large family and will be missed immensely. Our memories are full of love and happiness for the life that he lived.
