Evelyn K. "Evie" Horvath Obituary

Evelyn Kay “Evie” Horvath, 76, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 1:22 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN.

She was born on August 7, 1944 to the late Everett and Nettie (Shoue) Higginbotham in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident.  Along with her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Horvath, Sr.; four sisters, Norma Neirynck; Juanita Creswell "Mom"; Marilyn Burgess; and Audrey Higganbotham; and four brothers, Allen, Norman, and Thurlo “Ted”, and Everett “Bud” Higginbotham.

Evelyn worked some years ago at South Bend Country Club and American Home Foods in LaPorte, IN.  But most of all, she was a homemaker, provider and caregiver for her family especially her husband, Joseph whom retired from McCormick & Company. Evie and Joe both made so many longtime friends at McCormick's in which they were thankful for the memories.

On October 7, 1961 Evelyn married Joseph A. Horvath, Sr. in South Bend, IN.  Joseph passed away on September 7, 2015.

Evie is survived by her daughter, Cindy A. Horvath-Brown (Skip Hemminger) of Buchanan, MI; sons, Joseph A. Horvath, Jr. of South Bend, IN; Kenny (Tina) Horvath of Marion, IL; several grandchildren, and several great grandchildren; one sister, Deanna Sipos of Griffith, IN; two brothers, Robert Higginbotham of Osceola, IN; and Karl (Shirley) Higginbotham of South Bend, IN; and a sister-in-law, Laura (Riley) Higginbotham of Wickenburg, Arizona.

Evie was an amateur astronomer, excellent cook, all-around sports enthusiast, and an avid Notre Dame and Chicago Cubs fan. She was really enjoying watching those White Sox this year with her eldest son Joe, whom kept her safe from the Covid and was a loving caregiver for her. Mom appreciated that so much especially during such difficult times. Evie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who most of all enjoyed spending time with her family and special friends. She was a lifelong resident of Lydick, Indiana raised by her sister Juanita Creswell “Mom”. She loved her home where she felt safe, and she loved her lifelong neighbors whom she considered her family. Evies heart was so full of love, our solar system couldn’t contain that power any longer. Her husband Joe, who loved her and their family more than life itself said, “We had her long enough!” It was time for her to come home. With all that love, who could blame him.

Evie; daughter, sister, wife, sister-in-law, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, niece, aunt, neighbor, friend was loved so deeply by so many will be desperately missed. Rest in paradise Mama! We love you with all our hearts.

We really want to give a special Thank You to the ICU at South Bend Memorial Hospital for taking care of Evelyn.  Doing EVERYTHING they could to save our loved one.  We wish we could list everyone's name who helped Evelyn, our Mama.  However it was a "team effort" by all the angles who work on that floor and in that hospital going beyond their duty.  God Bless you all and Thank You from the bottom or our hearts.

Sincerely,

All of Evelyn's loved ones.
