Ethel Lanning Coleman, 93, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Wednesday May 11, 2022. She was born on October 14, 1928, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late William Harvey Gentry and Mary Inez (Jennings) Gentry.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters Maxine Nove, Deloris Dunklebarger and son Keith Lanning. Ethel is survived by her three sons Dennis (Eva) Lanning of Indiana, Tim (Debbie) Lanning of South Bend, Indiana and Donald Lanning of Wyoming, her sister, Wilma Smiechowski of South Bend, Indiana; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Ethel lived in South Bend all but 23 years of her life, during those 23 years she lived in Long Beach, California where she worked in the Credit Department for McPheeters Used Car Dealership. She was also a co-owner of the Coleman Book Locators for five years. While back here in her home town, she was an avid mystery reader and a volunteer librarian at Trinity Towers since 2003.
A memorial visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday May 18, 2022, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. Private burial will take place at Highland Cemetery, South Bend, at a later date.
