Ernest Edward Gorden

Mr. Ernest Edward Gorden passed away at the age of 65 on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.  Ernest was born on October 5, 1960 in South Bend, Indiana to the union of Leroy Gorden Sr. and Ernestine Gorden.  They both preceded him in death.

Ernest graduated from LaSalle High School in 1979.  Ernest was employed by the City of South Bend School Corporation, AM General Military Assembly Plant, O’Brien Paint Company and Honeywell International Inc.  Ernest received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Air Force in 2002.

Ernest was a faithful and dedicated member of Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where he was active on the Jr. Usher Board and Van Driver assistant in providing transportation to members desiring to come to church.  Ernest enjoyed basketball, football, and socializing with his friends.

Ernest leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Denise of Ft. Wayne, IN; Jada of Indianapolis, IN; one son, Ladarius of Indianapolis, IN; eight grandchildren: Kerry, Kaleb, Karsen, Kalel, Kaleo, Kehlani, Noah and Asher; two great- grandchildren, Aulira and Kalias; four sisters, Jacquelyn and Shirley both of South Bend, IN; Beverly of Joliet, IL; Tracy King of South Bend, IN; and a brother, Leroy Jr. (Gale), two nephews, Randy Gorden (Traci) of Indianapolis, IN; Rahman Johnson (Kelly) of South Bend, IN; and a host of cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2026 at Greater Saint John M.B. Church, 101 N. Adams Street, South Bend, IN  46628.  A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church, with Reverend André A. McGhee officiating.  Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
