Eileen Wroblewski Obituary

Eileen J. Wroblewski, 91, of South Bend, IN, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, June 24, 2024.

She was born May 3, 1933, in Mishawaka, to the late John C. and Eugenia (Lisiecki) Borkowski and was a lifelong resident of South Bend. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Alvin “Spanky” Wroblewski and her sister Dolores Flory.

On June 2, 1956, Eileen married Spanky at Holy Cross Church in South Bend. Surviving are her four children, daughter, Rachel (Robert) Weeks of Walkerton; sons, Eric (Coni) Wroblewski of South Bend, Matthew (Stacy) Wroblewski of Citronelle, AL, and Brian (Janet) Wroblewski of South Bend; grandchildren, Anthony, Jared, Colin, Adam, Ashley, Jocelyn, Samantha, Nick, Jeremy, Candace, Mandy, Brett, Ryan, Jordan, Joshua and Jake; 23 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. As the matriarch of the family, she always hosted holidays for all the family and friends making sure Polish style was on the menu, along with her famous homemade Sweet & Sour Cabbage, and the chance to try and beat her at a game of Euchre.

Eileen was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Parish where she served as the St. Vincent De Paul food pantry coordinator for over 25 years while also volunteering at the main St. Vincent De Paul Society pantry. She was past president of the Rosary Altar Society and one of the original “Bun Day '' moms at Holy Cross School.  She graduated from Holy Cross in 1947 and St. Joseph Academy in 1951, where she forged a lifelong friendship with her group of girlfriends: Jo, Darlene, Ann, Madeline, Judy, Dorothy, Maryann, Marian and Pat.  Eileen was a staple in downtown South Bend working at Fannie May Candies for over 33 years, making many friends during her employment, including her co-workers Irene and Marilyn. About 3 years ago, her friends Gloria, Joyce, Ann, and Shotsie became close with lunches and card activities which always kept her busy.

Eileen was a member of MR Falcon’s 100 Club, St. Casimir Harvest House, St. Hedwig Golden Cluster, St. John the Baptist Harvest House, St. Stanislaus Harvest House, and the St. Vincent De Paul Society.

A special thank you to Rachel and Stacy for taking wonderful care of Mom at home these past several weeks.
